Red hot chicken and Jorge's bacon cheeseburgers

Congratulations to our 2014 recipe contest runners-up: Nicolas Come of Orangevale for his red hot chicken recipe and San Diego food blogger Brandon Matzek for Jorge's bacon cheeseburgers.



Red hot chicken

In a blender, blend marinade ingredients together for 20 to 30 seconds: 6 to 8 habañero peppers (orange or red), 1 jalapeño, 4 to 6 cloves garlic, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/3 cup honey, 2 tbsp. cumin, 2 tbsp. smoked paprika, and salt and ground pepper to taste. 

Use a food brush to coat 1 whole chicken with marinade and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours. Barbecue or roast chicken in a 375-degree oven for about 1 hour.

Nicolas' tip: "Serve hot with your favorite vegetables."
